The function of the Manganin Shunt is to sample the current. It provides current sampling for the metering of the chip. It is actually a resistor connected in series (typically 380 microhms). When the meter is under load, current flows through the manganese-copper shunt and produces a voltage (mV level) in it. Computed with voltage sampling to measure energy.
